I have made som reports with Oracle Portal, where the output can be sent to Excel. When the *.xls files are opened, all characters with accents, circumflexes and umlauts are shown as strange double characters. But when this BOM is inserted in the top row of the excel file, and is is saved as a *.csv file, it can later be opened in excel  with correct data in it.
