Starting work on a Windows project I discovered that I have almost no space left on my Win7 RC partition. At first I wanted to strip Windows from stuff I don’t need, but can’t really do that post install and no room for vLite, so I decided to go back to Windows XP.
After an evening spent on reinstalling everything I discovered myself constantly pressing Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys (Linux users know what these do, for others see Virtual desktop). Having previously tried VirtuaWin I knew I didn’t want to reinstall that one. After a bit of googling I found SharpEnvironment. The screenshots provided weren’t very descriptive, but I did like the brief overview that was given, so I decided to try it out.
The installation procedure was made very easy and after a reboot I was in my new shell. It looked awesome compared to the old Windows XP shell. I got my virtual desktops, a beautiful environment and to my liking it is all configurable to my liking.
It even has a notes application bundled with it, how sweet is that?! This project makes Windows feel more at home for me. And the default themes it has with it are beautiful as well.
So if you want a good virtual desktop support, good looking environment or just feel experimental, I highly suggest giving SharpEnvironment shell a go.
